Assistant to Head of Media Rights & Lit

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Media Rights and Literary Department! The job is to provide direct support and administrative assistance to the Head of Media Rights and Lit Department, representing screenwriters, playwrights and the media rights to some of the world’s most celebrated books and authors.

The ideal candidate must have at least 18 months – 2 years of experience working in the film and television or related industries, and will have a love of literature, film, television and theatre. It is a very busy office and so it is essential to be highly organised and work well under pressure, as well as manage large volumes of reading. It is beneficial to have some experience working with film and television contracts.

Your responsibilities will range from extensive administrative support (including managing databases, invoicing, and diary management), reading scripts and books and pitching material, liaising with publishing agents, writers and producers, to reviewing and negotiating contracts. The environment is fast paced and the candidate will need to efficiently manage their time. The role is varied and demanding, but equally rewarding.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Diary management
  • Keeping track of submissions, options, and payments (including invoicing and chasing)
  • Reading scripts and books
  • Managing the department’s social media accounts (Instagram)
  • Putting together rights guides for book fairs
  • Attending meetings with producers and pitching material
  • Preparing submission letters
  • Reviewing contracts
  • Filing and processing contracts
  • Updating website (including books and client CVs)
  • Booking travel and accommodation
  • Networking and attending industry events, book launches, screenings, new writing scouting, where required

Essential skills:

  • Proficient IT Skills (including Microsoft Office)
  • Editorial – including the ability to review screenplays, books, podcasts, plays, articles and other content for film and TV potential
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Pro-active with excellent initiative and a willingness to learn
  • A passion for film, television, theatre and literature, and a sound understanding of the industry
  • Desirable – a working knowledge of Tagmin (although training will be provided)

Essential experience:

  • At least 18 months to 2 years of experience as an assistant in a related industry
  • Administrative experience (particularly diary management)
  • Experience reviewing scripts or books
