Sayle Screen and the TAP Lit/Media Rights department represent writers, directors, script editors, editors and producers for film, television and theatre. We also represent media rights in books and other forms of IP, working with literary agencies such as RCW, Mushens Entertainment, Janklow and Nesbit Greene & Heaton, PEW, the Sayle Literary Agency, Lexington Literary and many more. The Role
We are seeking a Senior Assistant/Associate to provide maternity cover for two literary agents at The Partnership Group on a 12-month maternity contract. An ideal candidate would be at Associate level with a good standard of experience in literary and media rights representation. The role will entail looking after the agents’ full client lists, some of whom are shared with Senior Agents/Company MDs. It will require experience in negotiating television and feature film contracts, IP option and purchase agreements, industry relationships, and experience of working with emerging level writers and directors, publishing agents and authors.
Key Responsibilities
- Being the first point of contact for a list of clients of varying profile and experience.
- Liaising with writer and director clients on a day-to-day basis to meet their needs including strategy and decision making across their current work and future goals, and general relationship upkeep.
- Liaising with publishing agents (and where applicable, their authors), including keeping on top of submissions from each agent, feeding back on submission strategy, feedback on books and what producers are looking for.
- Negotiating contracts for writers and directors across television, film and theatre including format agreements and option agreements (with access to support where needed)
- Negotiating IP option and purchase agreements and consultancy agreements (with access to support where needed)
- Arranging meetings with producers, production companies and commissioners to discuss clients and being pro-active in seeking work for clients (including publishing agents and authors) based on their tastes and ambitions.
- Attending internal production meetings and follow up on opportunities for specific clients
- Reading client scripts or pitches and giving feedback where required.
- Reading books sent by publishing agents and putting together a strategy for submission
- Attending client read-throughs, book launches, press nights, screenings etc when appropriate.
- Staying on top of invoicing for clients, an ability to liaise efficiently and clearly with clients about their payments, chasing unpaid and late invoices and being proactive in speaking to producers to solve any accounting discrepancies
- Various admin: Diary management (including for clients), updating website, sending client news to social media point person
Required Experience:
- Ideally 3 years of experience working at a literary agency, representing writers and directors and media rights, at a Senior Assistant/Associate Agent level
- Comprehensive understanding of the British entertainment industry: Production Companies, Independent Film Producers, Broadcasters, Streamers and Theatres
- Knowledge of UK and ideally US Film/TV/Theatre contracts, including: theatre licences, shopping agreements and writer agreements
- Knowledge of Option and Purchase Agreements
- Knowledge of Tagmin or a similar accounting software
Location
This is a full-time role on a 12 month contract. Working location will be two days a week from the Sayle Screen offices in Chelsea, two days a week from The Partnership Group offices in Soho and the possibility to work one day remotely/from home.
Salary
Commensurate with experience.
