BBC and holiday pay

BBC and holiday pay

I’ve received the following update from a PMA member, thought it would be useful to share:
I have had a few conversations with Ian Bayes from Equity, the booker at the BBC and Nicola Hill there too, so I am hoping if all agents can stand firm and request that holiday time be allocated for weekly BBC bookings, we can move forward with clarity and transparency….
I’ve been talking to The BBC and Equity about the fact that ‘holiday pay is not included in weekly BBC bookings’.
Essentially, that was not correct and the truth is that the BBC use the Pro Rata system for weekly bookings which means that instead of paying the customary £12.40 per single working day, they allocate a set period of time within that weekly booking for dedicated holiday.
The thing that we’ve been missing whilst agreeing things with bookers is a confirmation of the allocated holiday time which they must provide in order for us to ensure that this time is given and the artist actually retains that set period. They can’t shift it, they can’t cancel it (without having to pay) and this time is technically as firmly booked as a single day booking.
Technically, during a week’s booking, the artist must have 0.54 of a day (so, half) at least of holiday. These bookings are also 5 day weeks so they artist can only work a maximum of 4.46 days per weeks booking.
Hope this is useful.
